I served as President of the Hong Kong Mathematical Society for the period
\n25 ApriJ 1998 to 11May 2002. I write to certify that Prof. Shing~TungYau
\nhas never made any proposal to me or to the Hong Kong Mathematical
\nSociety about moving the site of the 2002 meeting of the International
\nCongress of Mathematicians to Hong Kong. The position of the Hong Kong
\nMathematical Society was to endorse and fully support the proposal of
\nholding the 2002 meeting of the International Congress of Mathematicians
\nin Beijing.<\/p>\n
